Grab Malaysia has taken a significant step towards a greener future by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BYD Sime Motors, Yinson GreenTech (YGT), and Power-Up Tech. This collaboration aims to drive the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) among ride-hailing drivers, making sustainable transportation more accessible and efficient.

Driving Electrification in Ride-Hailing

Under this partnership, Grab is committed to supporting the transition to EVs by providing ride-hailing drivers and fleet partners with access to competitively priced electric vehicles. Additionally, the agreement includes efforts to enhance charging infrastructure, ensuring that EV adoption is both seamless and convenient.

Yinson GreenTech will play a crucial role in the initiative by offering comprehensive leasing packages for EVs, starting with an initial delivery of 10 BYD M6 units. The company will provide attractive leasing rates, preferential charging prices, and vehicle maintenance services. Moreover, YGT will offer fleet management tools and performance insights while exploring the possibility of installing EV charging stations at key locations.

Jeffrey Gan, Managing Director of Sime Motors Southeast Asia, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership, emphasizing their commitment to making EV adoption more accessible. “As the official distributor of BYD cars in Malaysia, we are dedicated to providing exclusive pricing and specialized training for driver-partners, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and tools to transition smoothly to EVs.”

YGT’s Chief Executive, Lim Chern Yuan, highlighted their expertise in electrification, stating, “Our success in transforming the logistics sector has paved the way for our entry into the ride-hailing industry. We aim to enhance business efficiency and cost optimization through electrification while contributing to Malaysia’s transportation sustainability goals.”

Echoing these sentiments, Grab Malaysia’s Director of Country Operations and Mobility, Rashid Shukor, reiterated the company’s commitment to sustainability. “This collaboration allows us to support Malaysia’s green agenda while empowering our driver-partners with access to cleaner alternatives.
